Gerard Hordijk (1899-1958) was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in The haque. After his studies in 1925 he went to Paris were he lived and worked until 1935. His studio was in the Rue de Départ in the same building where Piet Mondrian lived and worked. They became close friends. In 1935 he moved with his American wife, Margareth to amsterdam but in 1939 he moved just as Piet Mondrian to New York. Hordijk was an active painter, costume designer and muralist.
