Born in Lodz, Poland in 1907, her Beaux-Arts diploma in hand, Pacanowska left Poland in 1932 to join the Jewish painters of the Paris school. Her parents were exterminated by the Nazis and until the end of the war, she lived in extremely precarious and dangerous conditions. All of her work before WW2 is lost.

"She is then considered as one of the most talented "aquafortistes" of her time. From then on, she took part of all major salons". "Her painting tends towards abstraction". "She loves confronting colours with a predilection for red". (Me Claude Robert)
