Remko Watjer

Remko Watjer (1911-1989) Dutch student of Jan Altink at de Academy Minerva in Groningen The Netherlands and later at the Académie from André L'hòte in Paris France. He left for South Africa where he lived and worked in Durban in the province of Kwazulu-Natal. It was in Durban where he made the portrait above. After Durban he settled down in Utrecht where he passed away in 1989. As a young painter he started to paint in a figurative way but soon he changed into a abstract expressionistic matter. Sadly enough Remko Watjer he remained relatively unknown but in my opinion he deserves much more attention!
