Toon Pluijmers (1910-1967) Dutch, originally from Zeeland, lived in Amsterdam from 1938, where he first obtained an Art Teaching qualification. In order to register as a free artist afterwards, he also studied at the Higher Institute in Antwerp. Pluijmers painted a variety of subjects such as portraits, landscapes, still lifes, townscapes and harbour views and marines. He was actively involved in the art circles of the capital, as can be gleaned from his membership of artist associations ‘De Onafhankelijken’ (Independents), 'De Brug’ and ‘St. Lucas’.
